Uniquely elegant with a smooth, satiny finish that is remarkably weather-resistant, Asli Arts’ copyrighted Spun Bamboo Top Chimes were inspired by a traditional Vietnamese craft. The natural Large Spun Top Bamboo Chime hangs 39 in total length, with hand-tuned bamboo chimes strung on weather resistant nylon cord from a 7″ diameter Spun Bamboo Top. Hand-made in Vietnam. Featured in art galleries and design stores Spun Bamboo, also known as lacquerware, has been produced in Asia for more than 1,000 years with Vietnamese lacquerware maintaining the highest standard of artistic expression. Pieces are made by wrapping thin pieces of pliable bamboo around molds and drying to shape. Each piece is sanded to a silky finish and coated with layers of weather-resistant varnish to achieve a hard finish in a multitude of vibrant colors. Asli Arts Spun Bamboo Top Chimes merge the painstaking artwork of Vietnamese lacquerware in vibrant, fashionable colors with the mellow tones of Asli Arts hand-tuned bamboo chimes. Every Asli Arts chime features the earth-inspired tones unique to resonating bamboo tubes. Each chime is hand-tuned by a trained artist-musician who whittles each tube to the perfect pitch, repeatedly tapping each bamboo tube as he carves until the sound is just right. Then our artisans select a range of tube sizes that when combined and touched by gentle breezes, create a deep resonating sound. Bamboo tubes emit notes based on size, large tubes produce lower tones and smaller tubes emit higher-pitched sounds. By hand-tuning each tube, then selecting a range of sizes, each Woodstock chime produces a melody unique to itself.
